From the Bertold's Fountain up to the Schlossberg Hill, this short walk takes you into a world of mindfulness, in which you sharpen your senses step by step and consciously perceive your surroundings. Feel the ground, listen to the sounds of nature and find a moment of peace between walls, vines and views in the middle of Freiburg.
This route takes you from Bertold's Fountain to Schwabentor (Swabian Gate) in about 5 minutes on foot. Before the gate, go up the steps on the left and cross the road on a small bridge. On the other side of the road you will see an overview map of the paths on the Schlossberg Hill. The Mez'sche Abenteuerrunde begins on the right, about 70 meters away, at the Augustinerweg sign. Turn left there and follow the sign with the yellow diamond.
This walk is all about walking consciously and feeling your surroundings. So walk slowly and pay attention: How does the ground feel under your feet? Hard/soft? Warm/cold ? Feel free to take your shoes off!
Follow the narrow path alongside the houses and pay attention to the wall on your left: It keeps changing its structure - feel the changing surface with your hands. Does it feel warm or cold, rough or soft? Are there sometimes lizards hiding in its holes, maybe you can see one?
Can you hear the sound of the stream to your right? What exactly does it sound like? Does the volume change? What does it trigger in you? On the left you see vines - observe them and let them have an effect on you.
After a while, the path becomes steeper and you take the left fork towards Mez'sche Gärten / Cannon Square. You now walk over stones and steps: Be aware of them, as well as the wooden railings under your hands. After a few minutes, you will see two palm trees on the slope to the right below the path - a good place to stop for a moment and enjoy the view.
What can you see here? Close your eyes for a moment and listen. How do the sounds differ? What do you feel? Is it warm or cold, windy or calm? Look at the houses. Notice the forest on the mountains behind them and the contrast between the city and nature. How do you like the view?
After about 100 meters there are some steps, then go straight ahead along the yellow diamond. After about another 10 meters, a staircase leads up to the left. Stop after the last few steps: Have you broken a sweat yet? What is your body telling you? Perhaps that you have just done something good for your health? Continue left and follow the path to the small Cannon Square. In sunny weather, you can see the light reflecting through the foliage. On the way up, you can run your hand along the retaining wall to your left: Sometimes it hits soft moss. Take note of the flora and fauna around you.
At the top, a cradle in the sky awaits you: a large bench on which you can lie comfortably and relax until you feel a deep sense of calm and the tension in your legs from the climb eases. Concentrate on the trees above you and look at individual details. Let your thoughts come and go. Close your eyes and feel what your senses have experienced on this walk. Breathe the energy of nature deep into your belly a few times and let go of what is not good for you at the moment as you breathe out.
If you now feel invigorated, balanced and full of energy, head back down to the city via the large Cannon Square - try to feel the environment with all your senses and remain mindful.

Order: It doesn't matter which of the mindfulness walks you do first. The only exception: If you decide to do walks 3 and 4, you should start with number 3.
Rest: It is advisable to take the walk alone. If possible, avoid using your cell phone and anything else that could distract you.
Route: It is best to always read each section straight through to the end. This way you can clearly see the route and concentrate fully on your sensory impressions as you walk.
Reminders: Perhaps you would like to collect an object of power from nature (stone, pine cone, branch, etc.) and take it home with you? And at the end of each walk, you can write down how you felt when you were out and about in nature.
Aim: During the mindfulness walks, you should concentrate fully on the moment - and recharge your batteries as a result.
Important: You can't do anything wrong. If you don't always succeed with the exercises, that's not a problem. Everything happens at your own pace and according to your needs.
