Welcome to the Münstermarkt (cathedral market) family!
Conny and Walter Schwaab set up their stand at Freiburg's Münstermarkt (cathedral market) between 7 and 8 a.m. - the Schwaabs sell apples, plums, pears, peaches and much more fruit from their farm in Denzlingen, as well as homemade jams, syrups and juices. Walter Schwaab's great-grandmother used to walk from Denzlingen to Freiburg, ten kilometres away, by handcart. And while his grandmother and mother later also sold at the stall at the Münstermarkt (cathedral market), Walter Schwaab did this as a boy directly from his bag in the streets of Freiburg's old town. "Sometimes the police would give him a telling off for peddling," says Conny Schwaab. "But there was never any big trouble. The Münstermarkt (cathedral market) is like a big family." This Münstermarkt (cathedral market) family still exists today and Conny Schwaab has long been part of it: "When it's quieter, I like to walk around the market and chat to the other market vendors." And of course with the customers; many come to her stall so regularly that they are also part of the Münstermarkt (cathedral market) family. "One regular customer comes every morning to get his breakfast apple. We don't even weigh it anymore, he just gives us the 30 cents."
