Extensive refurbishment, new themed areas and a new café

New exhibition rooms in the Augustinermuseum (Augustian museum)

The opening of the new exhibition rooms in the former convent building at the end of February 2026 marks the completion of the long-term renovation of the Augustinermuseum (Augustian museum) in Freiburg. Covering 2,900 square metres, the museum now presents itself as a modern, barrier-free and interactive place for art, history and social dialogue in Freiburg. The popular café in the Zinnengarten has also been reopened.

Whether in the atmospheric treasure chamber with medieval treasures, in the "Protest and Revolution" themed area with impressive floor graffiti or in the Welte Lounge with music "at the touch of a button" - here you will encounter fascinating objects and moving stories from Freiburg and the region. Multimedia installations on the Black Forest, interactive stations on the city's history, a baroque gallery in a dense salon setting and digital portrait steles on the diversity of urban society make the tour varied and surprising.

The Augustinermuseum (Augustian museum) is therefore more than just an exhibition venue - it is an inspiring meeting place in the centre of the city.
