Cycle routes for every season

The best time of year? Any!

Whether you are travelling by road bike, city bike, mountain bike or gravel bike, Freiburg is a city that you can experience by bike at any time of year. In spring, when nature awakens, the route along the Dreisam is ideal for enjoying the first greenery and warm rays of sunshine. In autumn, the forests in the city and the neighbouring Black Forest glow in the most beautiful colours; the clear air is perfect for long bike rides. And in winter, the comparatively mild days here invite you to take quiet, almost meditative tours.

Schauinsland & Kaiserstuhl by bike

It's just under 12 kilometres from the centre of Freiburg to the 1,248-metre-high Schauinsland - the road bike route is a real classic and very popular. Especially at weekends, when Schauinslandstraße is closed to cars and other vehicles and cyclists are largely on their own here. However, you can expect a few climbs on the way to the 1,200 metre summit. On the other hand, you have a magnificent view from the top - and in between when you take a breather.
If you are travelling along the Baden Wine Cycle Path, you should also plan time for breaks:
Individual stages of the 460-kilometre route lead through Markgräflerland or to Kaiserstuhl and Tuniberg, for example; the route is considered one of the most beautiful connoisseur tours in Germany. And the wineries along the way are a really good reason to take a break from time to time.
