Tours with speed

Travelling by road bike

Among racing bike fans, the Freiburg region is a real all-rounder. An absolute classic in the route repertoire is the tour up the local Schauinsland mountain. However, those who prefer a quieter ride will also find beautiful circular tours away from the popular and busy roads. Without any major climbs, the tour leads through the Rhine plain towards Badenweiler, for example, with challenging ascents and descents to the 1414 metre high Belchen.

Don't fancy setting the pace on your own? Freiburg has made a name for itself as a host of special race events. The La Reine Strictly Female is an all-female event. The atmosphere: ambitious but relaxed. The time is only measured on selected sections and there are refreshment stations with fresh vegetarian specialities along the route. The Schauinslandkönig is open to everyone: a good eleven kilometres up to the summit - with the steepest section right at the start: a twelve per cent gradient for the first 800 metres.

The racing bike classic

From Freiburg to the Schauinsland

It's the Freiburgers' favourite after-work cycle route. You're rarely alone here - the route is simply too good to be an insider tip. The route heads south out of the city towards Günterstal and continues uphill along the Schauinsland Pass road. The total of 11.6 kilometres can be completed in under 90 minutes. However, a certain level of fitness is required, as the first section of the route in particular is quite steep. The reward for the effort is the magnificent view - not only at the very top at an altitude of 1,200 metres, but also along the way, for example at Holzschlägermatte

Tip: At weekends, Schauinsland-Straße is closed to motorised traffic, so cyclists are largely among themselves here. You can find more information about the route and other tours around Freiburg at komoot and outdoor active.
