Travelling together - without obstacles

Barrier-free through Freiburg

Freiburg's historic old town is enchanting with its unique cobblestones - a real trademark of the city. But what is nostalgic and charming for many often poses a challenge for people with wheelchairs, walking frames, walking aids or pushchairs. Freiburg is therefore actively committed to breaking down barriers and paving centralised routes. This makes exploring the most important sights and places an experience for everyone - regardless of mobility restrictions

Old town for everyone

Sightseeing without barriers

Freiburg's city centre is not only beautiful, but also compact. The distances between the highlights are short - making it easy for guests with disabilities to discover the charming old town. A largely barrier-free route runs for 2.5 kilometres from the main railway station past Colombischlössle and Rathausplatz to Münsterplatz. From there, the route continues towards Augustinerplatz to the old synagogue square. In Freiburg Minster - for many the highlight of their sightseeing tour - people with visual impairments will find a tactile model at the back left of the church; visitors who wear a hearing aid can use an induction system to better understand speech and music. The cobblestones on the Münstermarkt (cathedral market) have been smoothed in front of the portal - as at other stops on the inclusive city walk.

    Mobile despite restrictions

    Through Freiburg without barriers

An old town with cobblestones is picturesque, but can pose problems for people with limited mobility. Freiburg has been tackling this issue for years. Sections of many streets have been smoothed out, and many sights and museums offer easy access.
    Barrier-free city centre!
  • The right place

    Nice toilets

Finding a toilet can be an urgent matter anyway. This makes it all the more important that people with disabilities can also find easily accessible toilets. Freiburg has a well-developed range of barrier-free toilets and has three "toilets for all" in the old town alone, which are equipped with recliners and patient lifts.

  • Car parks and garages

Easy and safe to the car

Do you have limited mobility and are dependent on a car? Then Freiburg has barrier-free parking spaces for you, both in public spaces and in various multi-storey car parks. The city centre map gives you an overview.

Accessibility is not a niche topic in Freiburg, but a task to which the entire city is committed. For more than 20 years, an important hub in this network has been the Lebensraum für alle association, which runs the Freiburg für alle portal. Experts from various fields have joined forces here to break down barriers in Freiburg and make the city even more inclusive and open.
