The top spots for mountain bikes
Easy to moderately difficult: Hubbelfuchs
Playful curves
The Hubbelfuchs got its name from the Fuchsköpfle, the small elevation to the west of the Rosskopf. The trail, which was originally quite straight, has been reworked in some sections with playful bends. There is a counter-climb up to the Fuchsköpfle. The trail is part of the official trail network of the Southern Black Forest Nature Park and is shared by hikers and mountain bikers.
Start: Rosskopf
Finish: Sohlacker
Length: 2.1 kilometres
Difference in altitude: ↓ 350 m ↑40 m
Ascent: From Zähringen or the youth hostel on forest paths.
Demanding: Canadian Trail
Nickname "The slingshot"
Four friends from Canada spent weeks building this trail by hand from Kybfelsensattel down to Sternwaldwiese. It is peppered with countless berms and smaller jumps and waves and even if all the obstacles can be rolled over or ridden round: The trail has it all. Rocky in the upper section and occasionally steep, it is not for mountain bike beginners. The section between the Schwarzkopf summit and Kybfels saddle in particular is very difficult in places with large, blocked sections and loose rock. Tip: First feel your way up the lower sections.
Start: Kybfelsensattel
Finish: Waldseestraße
Length: 3.2 kilometres
Difference in altitude: ↓ 490 m ↑25 m
Ascent: From the Sternwaldwiese on forest paths (follow the signs)

For the big jumps
From the Rosskopfturm, the descent leads along the former border line between Freiburg and Ebnet through the forest. The upper sections are immediately challenging with higher sections, stones and roots. Towards the bottom, the trail becomes somewhat easier and faster. Here and there, smaller and larger obstacles invite you to jump, especially in section 5: this is where Freiburg's young bikers meet. However, you can also roll off or ride round the jumps.
Start: Rosskopfturm
Finish: Kartäuserstraße Youth Hostel
Length: 3.2 kilometres
Height difference: ↓ 450 m ↑20 m
Ascent: From the youth hostel on forest paths (follow the signs).
Heavy: Baden to the Bone
Rock drop included
A route for experienced mountain bikers who are not afraid of slightly bigger jumps. From the Rosskopfturm tower, the trail winds downhill in a north-westerly direction, sometimes fast, sometimes in tight bends, to the forest car park at Altbach near Zähringen. Along the way, you pass various jumps made of earth and a rock drop. Although all obstacles can be bypassed, bikers should not shy away from steep sections, steps and roots. Tip: Take your time to look at individual jumps, but watch out for following bikers and don't block the trail.
