The Meckel Hall in Freiburg is a historic hall in the Sparkasse building, designed by Max and Carl Anton Meckel. Today, the light-flooded room in late Gothic style serves as a venue for exhibitions and events.
The centerpiece of the building ensemble at the Sparkasse is the almost sacred-looking "Meckel Hall". It was designed between 1909 and 1911 by the architect Max Meckel and his son Carl Anton as an imposing extension to the historic "Whale House" in the late Gothic style. The Meckel Hall was modeled on a medieval knight's hall, spanned by a cellular vault with glass skylights. Huge, clearly glazed tracery windows provide the hall with plenty of daylight.
Originally built and used as a ticket hall, the hall, now named after its architects, is now used for exhibitions and events.
