Shanty Peter and the Badweihermatrosengewerkschaftskapelle are a folk-rock cover band from St. Peter in the Black Forest, playing traditional sea shanties and contemporary folk songs and workers' songs from various traditions - both polyphonic a cappella and instrumental with guitar, double bass, accordion and cajón...
With a powerful acoustic sound and a longing for faraway places, Shanty Peter interprets songs by the big names of the international shanty scene such as the British The Longest Johns, Seán Dagher and David Coffin. Anglo-Saxon and Irish folk meet the best German-language music with powerful workers' songs by Gerhard Gundermann, eternal ballads by the Zupfgeigenhansel to classic road trip songs by BAP and contemporary radio hits such as Santiano and Alligatoah. Traveling in four languages, the band also brings unexpected melodies from the Mediterranean with songwriters such as Fabrizio De André and Pino Daniele as well as old Sardinian a cappella songs.
Admission is free, but we ask for an appropriate donation for the artists.
