The John Sheppard Ensemble’s fall program revolves around the theme of “The Sound of Bells.” The spectrum ranges from bells in their role of structuring (daily) life (wedding bells, evening chimes, funeral bells) to the symbolic significance of the sound of bells (e.g., for a lost or distant homeland) and even more technical approaches such as the English “change ringing,” Pärt’s “Tintinnabuli” style, or the sound experiments of Wolfram Buchenberg.
