Lorettoberg is one of Freiburg’s most beautiful vantage points and recreational areas. The forested ridge in the Wiehre district rises to about 384 meters and offers a wonderful combination of nature, cultural history, and impressive views of the city and the Black Forest.
The historic buildings on the hill are particularly striking. The three-part Loretto Chapel was built in 1657 and commemorates the Battle of Freiburg in 1644. Its name refers to the Italian pilgrimage site of Loreto. Below the chapel, a Way of the Cross winds through the meadow landscape.
Just a few steps away stands the Hildaturm, an observation tower dating from 1886. From its platform, a sweeping view of Freiburg, the Rhine Valley, and the surrounding Black Forest hills unfolds during the summer months.
The Schloss-Café is a popular meeting place for locals and visitors alike. The sunny terrace combines culinary delights with one of the most beautiful panoramic views of Freiburg. Together with the numerous walking trails, forest paths, and quiet spots to sit, this makes the Lorettoberg an ideal destination for relaxing breaks in nature.
