Harald Lesch and the Four Seasons in Climate Change - What are eight classical musicians from the Merlin Ensemble Vienna under the direction of Martin Walch doing with the famous astrophysicist Harald Lesch? A journey through space and time. The "Four Seasons" by Antonio Vivaldi, composed 300 years ago in Venice, provide us with an annual pass and an environmental ticket between Earth and orbit with a minimal CO2 footprint.
The spring thunderstorm, the oppressive heat of summer, the hunt in fall or the thin ice in winter - the images that Vivaldi depicts musically awaken old childhood memories in our minds, associative and seemingly immovable ideas of the seasons, right up to the present day. As an expert and improviser, Harald Lesch, Professor of Physics, uses his knowledge of the subject and his art of words to steer the winding paths of the forces of nature from Vivaldi's program music to our present day.
Lesch, Vivaldi and the Merlin Ensemble Vienna take us on a musical and scientific journey through time, beginning with the formation of the earth and its seasons and ending with present-day climate change. At the end, Harald Lesch observes the dramatic changes to the earth and our climate from orbit - right up to the apocalypse? The current politics of the day are not spared either.
