Since 1784, numerous Freiburg freemasons, whose activities often remained hidden, have had a decisive influence on the city's history. Their influence extends to the present day and can be seen in surprising places in the city. One example: originally, it was not Berthold Schwarz who was immortalized on Rathausplatz, but the freemason and statesman Rotteck. The ornate carillon on the new town hall also goes back to the Welte brothers, whose work can still be heard there today. As part of an exclusive city tour, these fascinating personalities and their hidden traces in Freiburg are explored at five distinctive stops. The tour leads from Rathausplatz via Rathausgasse to Rotteckplatz, on to old synagogue square, Martinstor (Martin's Gate), Augustinerplatz and finally back via Münsterplatz. Discover a city history that hides more than meets the eye.
