An Evening with Sebastian Guggolz on Literature and Politics
Since last fall, Sebastian Guggolz has been the head of the German Publishers and Booksellers Association and a public figure. He also remains the publisher of Guggolz Verlag, the publishing house of the same name founded in 2014. There, his focus is on “bringing regions to the forefront of the literary map—regions that are often overlooked and do not have to conform so strictly to trends or the spirit of the times.” Since November 2022, he has also served as an editor at S. Fischer Verlag. There, he is responsible for the classics and works with authors Judith Hermann and Reinhard Kaiser-Mühlecker. However, the evening will focus not only on the events that led to the exclusion of three bookstores from the 2025 German Book Trade Prize, but also on literature itself.
