The route takes you on a circular route around the Schlossberg (castle hill). The path to the top is somewhat steeper in places, but wide and sure-footed. Once you reach the top, it remains at this level. If you want to go on a discovery tour, follow the Schlossberg guidance system
The route is flat from Cannon Square and suitable for all ages; no special footwear is required. The themed routes of the Schlossberg guidance system are signposted.
If you would like to extend the tour into an excursion, follow the signs along the route to St. Ottilien, the Rote Hütte or the Herdern vineyard.

From Schwabentor (Swabian Gate), turn left over the striking wooden bridge to the foot of Schlossberg (castle hill). From here, the path winds its way up to the chestnut garden in wide sweeps with a few noticeable climbs. The next level is reached at the playground, take another deep breath - then it's up to the finish level, where the Cannon Square is just a few steps away.
From now on, it's time to shift down a gear, enjoy the fresh air and the marvellous view over Oberau, Wiehre and the old town. The route continues straight ahead along the edge of the forest on the Burghaldering, once around the Schlossberg (castle hill). There are plenty of other things to discover to the left and right of the path, but the flat route is all about exercise and encountering nature.
Sieben Linden, St. Ottilien, Krottenweiher - about halfway along the route, a signpost demonstrates that the paths here lead to many promising destinations. Take a look and perhaps keep it in the back of your mind, but don't get distracted for the moment. Stay on the Burghaldering. After an extensive left-hand bend, this opens up a view of the north-east of the city.
On the next section of the route, information boards explain a Caritas grazing project focussing on biodiversity and species protection. The aim is to preserve the historic landscape and the habitat of native animal and plant species. Further along the path, a fountain offers spontaneous cooling and a break in the shade of the trees.
