Tent Music Festival
Three weeks of the summer festival at Mundenhof: the ZMF combines concerts, culture, and culinary delights in the relaxed atmosphere of a tent city.
When the meadows at Freiburg’s Mundenhof transform into a bustling tent city in the height of summer, one of the region’s most iconic cultural events begins: the Zelt-Musik-Festival (ZMF). Since 1983, the festival has stood for a unique blend of music, art, and summery lightheartedness, and today it is an integral part of Freiburg’s cultural identity.
Every year, the sprawling grounds come alive with an atmospheric ensemble of large tents, open-air stages, and relaxed lounge areas. At the heart of it all are the striking circus tent and the elegant mirror tent, where national and international artists perform—from well-known stars to exciting newcomers.
The ZMF deliberately positions itself as an open festival for everyone: While the main program requires tickets, the grounds themselves are open to the public free of charge. The diverse program of activities across multiple stages offers free concerts, cabaret, dance, and creative experiments every day. The result is a blend of a concert evening, a summer outing, and a cultural gathering place.
The combination of nature and culture is particularly appealing. The rolling hills, shady spots, and views of the sunset create a relaxed atmosphere—ideal for strolling, picnicking, or simply taking a break between events. The experience is complemented by a wide range of dining options and numerous hands-on activities for families, children, and teens.
With over 100 events annually and around 120,000 visitors, the ZMF has long been more than just a music festival: it is a place of encounter, cultural diversity, and a shared sense of summer living.
