During the pandemic, three principal players from the Basel Chamber Orchestra brought music directly to the audience through spontaneous flash mobs. With classical music, early music, and their own folk music arrangements, they surprised audiences with their newly founded ensemble, Inisheer, in parks, courtyards, and at bus stops.
Today they perform again in concert halls and chamber music venues, yet they maintain the passionate spirit of their early days.
Playing historical instruments with gut strings, they seek an authentic musical language. With percussion, vocals, and full physical engagement, they also devote themselves with great enthusiasm to folk music. The Irish tune “Inisheer,” which gave the trio its name, is a staple of their program. The program includes movements from Beethoven’s Serenade, Op. 8, featuring folk music arrangements and dance elements, as well as his light, early Trio, Op. 3. In addition, the Trio Inisheer performs its own transcriptions from Béla Bartók’s collection “Romanian Folk Dances” as well as historical arrangements of Mozart’s piano sonatas with obbligato violin. Irish fiddle tunes and Swedish music by the band Väsen round out an evening full of groove.
