Plug-in Solar Upcycling

On September 26, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., the “Balkonsolar” upcycling world record attempt will take place in the schoolyard of the Weiherhof-Realschule in Freiburg-Herdern. Together, participants will build 300 new plug-in solar devices from 600 used solar modules. Participants may then take their self-made balcony solar systems home and install them, for example, on their balcony, in their front yard, or on their garden fence. The event is held under the patronage of Rita Schwarzelühr-Sutter, Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for the Environment. Young people are also welcome to participate; the event is specifically aimed at everyone aged 14 and older.
