Tanzende Kegel
The Dancing Cones by Andrea Zaumseil are cast-iron cone sculptures in front of the Konzerthaus (concert hall) Freiburg - dynamically tilted, symbolizing music & movement in urban space.
Andrea Zaumseil's "Dancing Cones" were erected between 1996 and 2000 on Konrad-Adenauer-Platz in front of the Konzerthaus (concert hall) in Freiburg. Four cast iron cones weighing several tons, with angles of inclination of 60°, 70°, 75° and 80°, look like dancing spinning tops - an aesthetic combination of rhythm, movement and musical energy. With a wall thickness of only around 2.5 cm, they are hollow on the inside and mounted on concrete foundations. Rain is drained away via special drains so that they remain stable visit.freiburg.de. Ten art students prepared the spaces for the cones using 1:12 scale models. The ensemble brings movement into the public space and provides a strong counterpoint to the vertically structured façade of the Konzerthaus (concert hall) - a floating arrangement that makes music visible and invites visitors to engage with it.
