How can images make social realities visible? Russian-born artist Victoria Lomasko, who lives in exile and is internationally renowned for her graphic novels Forbidden Art, Other Russias and The Last Soviet Artist, explores this question with impressive clarity and expressiveness. In her workshop, she shows how drawings can become an instrument for social observation and criticism.
The focus is on so-called "talking pictures": portraits, landscapes and still lifes that reveal the social context through details. Participants will analyze such images and translate their own observations into drawings: at the exciting interface between art, journalism and sociology. A special focus is placed on the interplay between image and text.
The workshop is aimed at anyone interested, regardless of drawing experience, and will be held in English.
Please bring your own drawing material, if available.
