In cooperation with nonsolo Verlag and josfritz Buchhandlung, the Goethe-Institut Freiburg cordially invites you to a reading with the Italian screenwriter and author Alice Urciuolo. The evening will be moderated by Dr. Marina Crespi-Günther. The evening will focus on the highly acclaimed novel "Adoration", a haunting coming-of-age story set in the Italian provinces, which is as captivatingly told as a series you can't get away from.
"Adoration" is set in Pontinia, a small town south of Rome, where 17-year-old Elena is killed by her boyfriend. A year later, her friends struggle with the trauma she left behind, between pain, longing and the desire to free themselves from the patriarchal structures of their environment. Urciuolo paints a polyphonic portrait of a young generation whose lives are characterized by emotional intensity, sexual self-discovery and social tensions. With a sharp eye and great empathy, Alice Urciuolo tells of tenderness, desire, shame and the search for one's own path.
Alice Urciuolo was born in 1994 in the province of Latina and lives in Rome. Her debut novel Adorazione was longlisted for the Premio Strega 2021 and was made into a Netflix series of the same name in 2024. Her second novel, La verità che ci riguarda, was published in October 2023. As a screenwriter, she worked on the series Skam Italia (Netflix) and Miss Fallaci (Rai) and is co-developer of Prisma (Prime Video), which won the Nastro d'Argento for best drama series in 2023.
We are looking forward to an inspiring evening with Alice Urciuolo and her impressive novel.
