Young children discover themselves and the world through and with their bodies. And these discoveries often lead to curious questions. Also about genitals, their appearance and function and the differences between bodies and genders anyway. For parents, these questions are sometimes not easy to answer. What is appropriate for children? How do they themselves feel about certain questions and observations? What do they themselves consider appropriate or normal? And what is actually normal?
A brief overview of the developmental stages of children's sexuality provides orientation and raises awareness of fundamental differences to adult sexuality. Language will also play an important role: Why does it make a difference whether we talk about "down there" or specifically name penis, vulva and vagina? And what do adults experience when children approach them with questions about their bodies, feelings and sexuality? Accompanying children in their sexual development consciously and without shame has a fundamental impact on the way they approach this topic as adolescents. In small groups, challenges from the parents' perspective are examined and the concluding discussion round offers the opportunity to ask questions and exchange ideas.
