KAVALL - INMITTEN - Immersive Concert

Kavall’s immersive concert format “INMITTEN” creates an experience that blends elements of an audiovisual
installation with a solo concert. A hexagon of sound and light columns surrounds the audience. Spatially choreographed compositions unfold throughout the space. Instrumental performance and electronic sound design merge into music that is not only audible but can also be physically experienced.

Kavall developed his own instruments for “INMITTEN.” A spatially playable guitar, the single-stringed string instrument Monolo, and the hybrid string instrument SIIIARIII. They produce flowing melodies, dense sound textures, and swarm-like, pulsating rhythms. Each note is processed individually, moved through the space, and repositioned. The sound surrounds the audience and transforms the space itself into an instrument. Light follows the sound in real time, amplifying the spatial effect. In this way, the concert and installation merge into a single immersive experience—open, walk-through, and new to experience from every perspective.

FREE SEATING
Seating is unassigned. Seating islands are available in the middle of the sound space. We recommend bringing your own seat cushions or blankets for a more relaxed listening experience. You’re also welcome to change seats during the concert to experience different acoustic impressions. Additionally, chairs are provided to ensure all visitors have a suitable place to sit. Please contact us if you require alternative seating arrangements.

ACCESSIBILITY
The venue is at ground level and accessible without steps. An accessible restroom is available. “INMITTEN” is conceived as a relaxed performance. There is the option for early entry and free choice of seat and type of seating. The audience is invited to move freely and shape their own experience according to their individual needs.

Trigger warning: The concert performance features amplified music and sequences with audio-reactive, flashing lights. Please feel free to contact us at any time if you have questions regarding accessibility.

The event is sponsored by the City of Freiburg’s Cultural Affairs Office and Kulturgesichter0761 e.V.

Kavall’s immersive concert “INMITTEN” creates an experience that lies between an audiovisual installation and a solo concert. A hexagon of sound and light columns surrounds the audience. Spatially choreographed compositions unfold within the space. Instrumental performance and electronic sound design merge into music that is not only audible but also physically tangible.

For “INMITTEN,” Kavall developed his own instruments: a spatially playable guitar, the bowed Monolo, and the hybrid stringed instrument SIIIARIII. They give rise to circulating melodies, dense sound textures, and swarm-like, pulsating rhythms. Each note is individually processed, positioned, and moved within the space. The sound encircles the audience, transforming the
space itself into an instrument. Light follows the sound in real time, amplifying the spatial effect and merging the concert and the “
” installation into a single, immersive experience that is open and invites the audience to create their own perspective.

FREE SEATING
Seating areas are provided within the soundscape. We recommend bringing your own cushions or blankets for a more relaxed listening experience. You can also change your seat during the concert to experience different acoustic impressions. Chairs are available to ensure everyone has a suitable seat.
