Bitingly ironic, resolutely European, highly political and cosmopolitan - Heinrich Heine was all of these things. Central themes in Heine's life, such as life in exile, nationalism or anti-Semitism, have hardly lost any of their relevance in their political dimension.
In his poems, he combines apparent opposites such as the sublime and the ridiculous, pathos and comedy in a unique way, but always creates a lightness without losing any depth. He modernized German poetry with his unmistakable style.
Heine's Book of Songs, his most popular collection of poems, is the focus of the evening. Published in 1827, the work focuses primarily on unhappy and unfulfilled love.
No other poet has triggered such a flood of musical settings as Heine, with over 10,000 to date. His works are not only highly regarded in German-speaking countries and have inspired numerous composers to write songs. Just HEINE shows the musical fascination for Heine in a journey through time around the globe.
Ferdinand Dehner is studying for a Master's degree in opera singing at the College of Music in Karlsruhe. He can be heard mainly in southern Germany with song programs, in concerts and musical theater productions.
Lorenzo de Cunzo is a lyrical baritone who can be heard both in opera productions and in his own projects, which range between jazz and classical music. He continuously produces new formats with pianist Tarek El Barbari as the duo LoTa, as can also be heard on SWR Kultur.
Tarek El Barbari combines his passion for piano, singing and poetry in his work as a Lied pianist. He studied music education with a major in piano at the College of Music in Freiburg and in Karlsruhe, as well as German studies at the University campus Freiburg.
Look forward to a special evening and get into conversation with the artists themselves over a glass of wine afterwards.
