Julia Fischer Quartet
The art of communication - It is not a matter of course that excellent soloists harmonize as an ensemble like violinist Alexander Sitkovetsky, violist Nils Mönkemeyer and cellist Benjamin Nyffenegger together with Julia Fischer. For around a decade and a half, they have succeeded in creating a "quartet" of their distinguished personalities with "an exuberant expressiveness that sweeps audiences off their seats" (Welt). Julia Fischer would also not want to miss this antithesis to the soloist jet set: "The quartet period is always the highlight of the season for me. The four of us not only enjoy playing together, we are also close friends." In the current season, the Julia Fischer Quartet is tackling Shostakovich's 3rd String Quartet, composed in 1946 and carrying echoes of the war years, with an art of communication that is both audible and visible. It is framed by Schubert's quartet movement in C minor, first published thanks to Johannes Brahms - who himself spent a long time refining and hesitating before giving up his own quartets op. 51.
