Japanese calligraphy, Zen calligraphy

A meditative calligraphy journey focusing on Zen word and script in various calligraphy styles and sizes. This class teaches mindfulness processes, how to connect body and mind while calligraphing, increasing Qi energy flow and awareness. Using basic brush movements, techniques such as side-brushing + direct-brushing, you will learn and experience about the balance of different spaces. One focus is the process and capturing the moment with the brush and making the Qi energy visible on the paper. We work with the Enso circle, block and italic style, ink toning/flow/jumping/pushing/dotting techniques. In the final phase - mindful and creative - individual works are created. In addition, a simple rubber name stamp can be created. No previous knowledge is required. Basic working materials and utensils will be provided by the course instructor, the materials will be charged on site according to consumption (max. 15€).

Course instructor: Takeda, Rie. Rie Takeda has been working as a freelance artist and professional calligrapher in Europe and Japan since 2000. She has been teaching shodō, the art of Japanese calligraphy, and sumi-e in adult education since 2002. More on Instagram: neojaponismatelier/Rie Takeda
