HGich.T Live + Acid Aftershow - 30 YEARS TOUR
The crazy plan to let AI do all the work this time has failed. In the
end, HGich.T had to step in themselves after all. Thank goodness! “Lenovobeach,” the eighth studio album by the Hamburg-based music collective, sounds like the tender embrace of a stoned mother.
“Yeah, boss. Thanks for everything,” goes the line on “Lenovobeach”—and that pretty much says it all. The idea of letting ChatGPT handle all the lyrics and sound work this season for a change—and gradually replacing the entire band with avatars—was well-intentioned (keyword: work-life balance), but in the end, DJ Hundefriedhof, Tutenchamun, Dr. Geilser, Nora Hardstyle, Katze Cozy, DJ Balmi, the lovely Maike, Fosserill, 12Fingermann, Professor Sus-pect, Opa16, and the rest of the adorable gang decided to take matters into their own hands after all, ensuring that even 14 years after the release of the mega-hit “Hauptschuhle,” the track still packs a punch like twenty Buzkashi whips. Mission: accomplished.
“What the AI spat out sounded polished, calculated, and overly aestheticized—we might as well have just asked Maik Forster or whatever his name is,” Dr. Geilser sums up, exhausted. “It’s not for nothing that we’ve been cultivating a small, exotic island beyond the filters, self-optimization mania, and perfectionism of the 21st century for decades.” And that’s how it should stay: “Lenovobeach” was lovingly produced over seven magical nights in a Portuguese beach cave and entices listeners with life-affirming rave anthems (“Geistig am Start”), ecstatic dance tracks (“UDO”), unsettling love ballads (“Merci Cherie”), socially critical bangers (“Saufe”), and the new summer smash “Lenovobeach,” which is already on heavy rotation at “Pascha.”
As robust and timeless as an old Lenovo, the keyboard ballad “Die schwarze Gitarre” comes across in a head-bobbing Graf-Zahl style. The lyrics come from an old diary by Dr. Geilser.
The highlight of the new album is a hymn of praise to an essential everyday object: the “Adapter,” which has not only radio stations licking their lips but also inspired “Die Gebrüder Brett” to create a killer remix.
Track recommendation: “Geistig am Start” hypnotizes with almost saccharine operatic vocals (Nora Hardstyle), Portuguese chants, and unsettlingly melodic Pied Piper of Hamelin vibes, served up on a rock-hard “Hundefriedhof”-style beat that’s in a league of its own. Message: “We are the underdogs, we are Mayday, we dance in the Matrix, mentally on point.
On the keyboard and mic (including “Adapter”), a prodigal son shines: Fosserill is back! For years, the quirky second-in-command to the great Vhagvam Swami had been missing in Bärchiland, occasionally working as his prompter. Now “Fossi-Bär” gets to step out of the shadow of the Grand Master, who is currently enjoying his paternity leave. “The guys at HGich.T always had such cheesy feet. But now it’s better. So I’m back in the mix. And I’m totally stoked,” says Fosserill via ICQ. Tutenchamun is also rising to the challenge: “After twenty years, I finally know ‘Hauptschuhle’ by heart,” exclaims the endearingly clueless frontman. Hats off!
Press verdict—so far: “Goa, neon, and a hefty dash of trash (...) HGich.T—the loose collective of performance artists, musicians, and freaks—celebrates life, love, and perhaps even art (...) and, dressed in trashy costumes, strums the booming keyboard of bad taste,” the Saarbrücker Zeitung recently raved
