Recess: The Best of Picture Books—For Educators, Parents, and Fans of Read-Alouds
Picture books tell simple stories full of humor, poetry, and encouragement—and accompany children throughout their lives: the excitement of turning the pages, immersing oneself in unfamiliar worlds, and the joyful feeling of familiar pages. The longer you look at them, the more multifaceted and complex the simplicity becomes, yet the whole remains clear and accessible.
In the midst of the exhibition “Alberta and the ABCs of Wishes,” Sophia Gass, Monika Janzer, and Barbara Schmider—three experts in reading promotion—will present their favorite picture books and discuss the power of images and the art of reading aloud. Bring your favorite book, too! Further inspiration is provided by an enticing book table featuring both time-tested and new classics.
“The Big Break”—our exchange event held three times a year—is aimed at anyone who is passionate about literature and its promotion.
