Fribourg carnival

The high season of Freiburg's carnival begins on "Schmutzige Dunschdig" with the storming of the town hall: in the afternoon, all of Freiburg's carnival guilds come together on the town hall square. The Lord Mayor hands over the keys to the town hall to the head guild master on the town hall balcony and the carnival callers bring the carnival tree, freshly felled the day before in the city forest. After the carnival tree has been erected, the actual carnival days begin.
