"GebäudeGrün hoch³" Funding Program
As part of the twelfth consultation week, interested parties can receive advice on the “GebäudeGrün hoch³” grant program. The consultations last about 30 minutes. This program is aimed at homeowners, interested tenants, associations, institutions, and businesses in the Freiburg metropolitan area who want to remove impervious surfaces from their roofs, facades, or courtyards and turn them into green spaces, or who would like to implement measures to store rainwater on their property. In addition, a greening walk will take place as part of the Zähringen Climate District initiative. The meeting point is at 5:00 p.m. at Platz der Zähringer. Register at https://www.gebaeudegruen.info/freiburg.
Through the “GebäudeGrün hoch³” grant program, the city has been supporting building owners, organizations, tenants, and businesses since October 2021 in greening buildings and reducing impervious surfaces. The twelfth advisory week will take place during the nationwide Climate Adaptation Week from September 14 to 18.
Through the “GebäudeGrün hoch³” funding program, Freiburg residents can receive a grant covering up to 60 percent of the costs for green roofs, green facades, unsealing of surfaces, and rainwater retention: A green carport roof can thus be more cost-effective than a new gravel roof. When combining various measures from different funding modules, up to 25,000 euros in funding per property is available. Additional funding is also available, for example, for solar green roofs—the combination of photovoltaics and a green roof. Also worth noting: Those who do the work themselves can also receive funding—personal contributions are also eligible for support.
Interested parties can submit grant applications for green roofs and facades, as well as soil de-sealing and rainwater retention measures, to the Environmental Protection Agency even outside of the consultation weeks. The online grant application, forms, new eligibility requirements, and the option to schedule a free initial consultation with the Federal Association for Green Buildings (BUGG) are available at www.freiburg.de/gg3 .
