Cargo Theatre

The Cargo Theater Freiburg has been part of the lively independent theater scene in Freiburg for over 30 years. Founded in 1992, the ensemble sees itself as a mobile theater collective that presents its productions not only on classical stages, but also in unusual spaces - from cultural centers to temporary venues.

The focus is on self-developed productions that are often based on improvisation and work with the body, space, objects and materials. This results in plays for children and young people as well as evening programs for adults. A particular focus is on intercultural projects and cultural education work, which the theater also realizes beyond Theater Freiburg in German- and French-speaking countries.

Since 2024, the ensemble has also had its own space in Haslacher Straße ("H15"), where workshops, guest performances and artistic exchanges take place in addition to performances. Nevertheless, Cargo Theater remains true to its idea of theater as a flexible, open format that is constantly evolving and creatively reflects social issues.
