Heliotrope

The Heliotrope in Freiburg is a rotating solar house designed by architect Rolf Disch. It aligns itself with the sun's position and is considered an energy-plus house.

The Heliotrope, located in the Vauban district of Freiburg, was designed by architect Rolf Disch. The building can rotate from east to west to follow the sun’s path: the glass-enclosed side can be oriented toward the sun, while the more heavily insulated side provides shade when needed. The building was designed as an energy-plus house and is engineered to generate more energy than it consumes. The Heliotrope is open to visitors from the outside; guided tours are available by appointment. It is considered a prime example of the combination of solar architecture and energy-efficient construction.
