Synagoge (Synagogue)
The old synagogue went up in flames on the night of the Kristallnacht pogrom in 1938. Just after the Second World War, the sketches of city planners show that they were apparently already thinking about a location for a new synagogue.

However, it was not until 40 years later that the plans were implemented, with the laying of the cornerstone for the current synagogue in 1985. The postmodern, hexagonal building was officially inaugurated two years later. Some valuable carvings from the original synagogue had survived the fire and were used in the new building.
In 2017, a memorial fountain was built on the site of the foundations of the old synagogue, opposite the Municipal Theater and the University Library.
