About the symposium:

The symposium offers a variety of insights into the field of music physiology & musician's medicine and provides suggestions for your own involvement with the subject area. We therefore warmly welcome musicians of all genres from the fields of amateur and professional music, lecturers, researchers, doctors and therapists as well as all interested parties.

In lectures, discussion rounds, workshops, poster presentations and a panel discussion, we would like to set and walk the milestones of our field together with you. This includes the training of young musicians in music physiology as well as the therapeutic care of singers and instrumentalists in medical consultations. The symposium contributions on research range from basic vocal physiology research to movement analysis in instrumentalists, stage fright, resilience and communication processes in ensemble playing to neuroscientific topics and much more. With the poster session, we would like to give you the opportunity to present your own projects and get to know each other. In the workshops, you can experience many topics in practice and discuss case studies from musicians' medical practice. Participants will also have the opportunity to take part in various working groups and get to know the work of the JUMMs (Young Forum).

The Freiburg Institute for Musicians' Medicine (FIM) will be celebrating its twentieth anniversary in 2026. We are delighted that a birthday concert will take place on Thursday evening, at which musicians from our own music academy, but also from other renowned ensembles, will perform "birthday serenades" of various kinds. You can look forward to a top-class and varied program! On Friday there will be a ceremony with lectures and a musical finale and afterwards we look forward to celebrating with you with live music and dancing!
