125 Years of Trams in Freiburg: Anniversary Celebration at the South Depot
The Friends of the Freiburg Tram are celebrating the anniversary together with VAG. You can get to the celebration in style using the shuttle service. The Fashion and Food Festival is taking place at the same time—there are discount codes for public transportation for both events.
It connects neighborhoods, brings generations together, and for many Freiburg residents, it’s simply a natural part of everyday life: the tram. It began operating in Freiburg 125 years ago. The Freiburger Verkehrs AG (VAG) and the Friends of the Freiburg Tram (FdFS) are celebrating this anniversary together. On September 26 and 27, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day, the anniversary celebration will take place at the Süd Depot (Urachstraße 5). Admission is free.
Guided tours highlight the historic fleet
On both days of the festival, visitors can expect a varied program centered on the history of the Freiburg tram. A photo exhibition showcases the tram’s development over the past 125 years. Visitors can also tour historic trams, which are preserved and maintained by the Friends of the Freiburg Tram. Guided tours of the historic fleet offer insights into the technology and history of the vehicles. The program is complemented by food and beverage stands as well as a beer garden.
There’s something for the little ones, too: there’s a coloring corner, and on Saturday, the VAG mascot BaBu will be on site. A miniature train invites visitors of all ages on both days to discover the world of rail transport on a small scale.
