between/rent: Jehona Kicaj - Young literature in shared flats
The narrator grew up in Germany as the child of refugees from Kosovo. She follows the raging Kosovo war at the end of the 1990s from a safe distance. But destruction and death are also present in the diaspora - they are just experienced differently than on the ground.
In her debut novel "ë" (Wallstein Verlag, 2025), Jehona Kicaj "tells of speechlessness, of what remains silent, of what splinters and breaks. It is a novel about remembering and forgetting, about war and erasure. While reading it, I always thought it was as if language had eyes," says fellow author Ronya Othmann. Jehona Kicaj talks about a past that cannot pass in our series "zwischen/miete", moderated and organized by a team of students.
