Document Forgeries in the Middle Ages—With Special Reference to the Documents of St. Trudpert Monastery
Forgery remains a timeless phenomenon to this day. The Middle Ages, however, are considered the golden age of forgery. Researchers encounter it with remarkable frequency, particularly in the field of documentary heritage.
Using examples from the Upper Rhine region, particularly from the collections of St. Trudpert Abbey, the lecture examines such forgeries, their various forms, ways to identify them, and the value they offer—despite being forgeries—as historical sources.
