Heavily haired men with spears on the hunt - to this day, it is images like these that shape our idea of Stone Age people. But why is it mostly depictions of women that were left behind by early humans?

In her meticulously researched comic "Die Frau als Mensch", artist Ulli Lust explores these stereotypical assumptions and shows how strongly our historiography is influenced by patriarchal thought patterns. She skillfully interweaves layers of time, scientific findings and everyday experiences to create a groundbreaking work, which last year was the first comic ever to be awarded the German Non-Fiction Prize.
