Tetzlaff Quartet
Gipfelwerke - Franz Schubert's G major quartet was unheard and for a long time also unheard. Under the impression of the premiere of Beethoven's Opus 130, the Viennese composer wrote a no less monumental but completely contrasting work in 1826. The first complete public performance did not take place until 1850 - but even then, the wild harmonic boldness was so radical that a true appreciation of this masterpiece only began in the 20th century. Even for a top ensemble such as the Tetzlaff Quartet, which has been translating the deep familiarity of its playing partners into a sophisticated sound culture for over 30 years, Schubert's G major Quartet remains a challenge far removed from any routine. And so the Tetzlaff Quartet continues to find new facets in this milestone. This is preceded by Antonín Dvorák's A flat major quartet, which was begun in America in March 1895 and completed in his native Czech Republic at the end of the year. Full of tension and cantabile ideas, it brings the Bohemian master's chamber music oeuvre to a close.
