Dance Performance: Impasse
Choreographer and dancer Mufutau Yusuf sees any attempt to do justice on stage to the often violent—and ongoing—projections that the Western world casts onto Black people as a dead end. In his latest dance piece, *Impasse* —the French word for precisely this dead end—he collaborates with Lukah Katangila to create, through striking imagery, an experimental landscape within the self-designed set, aiming to make the politics of Black bodies in Western societies tangible. His powerful dance invites us to reflect on the fragile boundaries between the visible and the invisible, on the relationship between representation and the lack thereof, and on racism and belonging. At the same time, *Impasse* reads as an invitation to let our own thoughts and questions drift into dead ends of thought and observe what happens. With what force will they bounce back?
