Tabea Zimmermann, Jean-Guihen Queyras, Javier Perianes

Soulful friendships - As a leading violist of her generation and influential teacher, Tabea Zimmermann knows from experience the unifying power of making music together. Her instrument in particular often takes on a mediating role in chamber music: balancing, dialogic, supporting. The audience can therefore expect harmonious togetherness when Tabea Zimmermann joins her artistic companions Jean-Guihen Queyras and Javier Perianes to form a top-class trio. The program celebrates the sparks created by the meeting of musically excellent personalities. The famous Clara Schumann gave more concerts with Joseph Joachim, twelve years her junior, than with anyone else. Having performed together since 1843, their contact intensified into a friendship around 1853 - the same year Joachim introduced the Schumanns to an exciting young pianist named Johannes Brahms.

The friendship between the four exceptional figures lasted until the end of their lives and left traces in numerous compositions - for example in Joachim's "Hebrew Melodies" dedicated to Brahms and in Clara Schumann's "Three Romances", which Joachim provided with bowing and phrasing indications for publication. Brahms also remained inspired by friendships throughout his life, be it through the vocal artistry of Joachim's wife Amalie or through the Meiningen clarinettist Richard Mühlfeld, who inspired late masterpieces such as the Clarinet Trio - also authorized for viola.

Program:
Schumann, Fantasiestücke op. 73
Clara Schumann, Drei Romanzen op. 22
Joachim, Hebräische Melodien op. 9
Brahms, Vier Balladen und Romanzen op. 75
Brahms, Drei Intermezzi op. 117
Kurtág, excerpts from "Signs, Games and Messages"
Brahms, Klarinettentrio op. 114 (arr. Brahms for viola, violoncello and piano)

Instrumentation:
Tabea Zimmermann, viola
Jean-Guihen Queyras, violoncello
Javier Perianes, piano
