What French President Emmanuel Macron achieved and why he failed
Macron's "Jupiter-like" style of power aims to break up the left-right system and reform France profoundly through centralized control. Despite original promises to allow more direct democratic procedures, a vertical understanding of politics dominates, often bypassing parliamentary debates by means of decrees. While Macron wants to convey cultural depth and authority, his ability to act suffers from a fragmented National Assembly without stable majorities. The erosion of his parliamentary group and the involvement of political newcomers have led to a "Balkanization" of parliament, which is increasingly blocking the implementation of the reform agenda.
