Punch yourself something! Tufting by hand with the punch needle

This workshop is perfect for anyone who wants to try something new, swing the punch needle and punch a unique piece for the wall!

The punch needle - forerunner of the electronic tufting gun - has been experiencing a revival in the maker scene for a few years now. No wonder, because embroidery tufting with a hollow needle offers two huge advantages: It's easy to learn and you get great results immediately and quickly. Another advantage of the punch needle: you don't need such an extensive, cost-intensive set-up as with tufting, you can tuck the work you've started under your arm for a trip to the café and stitch much more precise motifs;-)

The technique also allows a creative approach similar to drawing or painting, which makes it possible to create completely individual images and designs. The punch needle replaces the pencil and brush. Lines and areas are created by lining up different stitches on a loosely woven background fabric. The use of colored yarns creates textile works of art and accessories with unusual surface structures and designs.

And this is how it works:

In this workshop, you will learn all the basics of the technique and can try out needles and yarns. I will show you everything you need to know, starting with the design, the selection of materials and preparation of the frame, through to the actual implementation with the needle (e.g. 3D technique). I'll be on hand to help and advise you with the design and will also be happy to provide you with templates. At the end, you will take home your work stretched on a 30x30 cm wooden frame, which you can hang up straight away!

Who is it suitable for?

The workshop is suitable for absolute beginners as well as for those who already have some experience and would like to deepen their knowledge. From approx. 14 years.

What is included?

All materials, such as high-quality needles, 100% wool yarns, wooden frames and fabrics as well as snacks & drinks (water/tea). On weekdays + Saturdays until 5 p.m. you can also fortify yourself with delicious barista specialties at "Jahbro" - our café in Layback!

What you should bring with you:

If you have already collected ideas/inspiration - bring them along! Feel free to bring your own 17x17 cm sketches or designs. Tip: Pay attention to highly simplified, graphic shapes!

Don't panic, you can also come to me completely without a plan! In any case, I will provide you with a large selection of suggestions and ready-made motifs and will also help you with the design of your design if required!
