One's for Sorrow, Two's for Joy

Mourners, midwives, seers, witches: TRËI sings the songs of women who watch over the beds of the living and the dying. Crows, ravens, and magpies accompany their stories and songs, foretelling war and bringing glad tidings. In a poetic and honest way, TRËI explores themes of persecution, empowerment, and femininity, thereby honoring all those who have accompanied people at the edge of life with their songs for centuries.

TRËI (Nordmann, Simsek, Miribung) performs vocal folk music from various cultures and brings their own arrangements and compositions to the stage. The trio performs staged concert projects and interdisciplinary collaborations that consistently revolve around the question of what it means to be human. In doing so, the three women weave together their diverse backgrounds and celebrate diversity in all its forms.

TRËI is based in Basel; the trio’s name comes from Ladin, a Rhaeto-Romance minority language from the Italian Alps.
