What many people may not know: Johann Wolfgang von Goethe was a flower lover from an early age. Growing up in his home town of Frankfurt, with its carefully tended vegetable, fruit and flower gardens, he had no trouble creating, tending and studying his own gardens in Weimar. He was a great admirer of Jean Jacques Rousseau and also learned from the French philosopher and botanist how to set up his own herbarium for intensive plant studies. Goethe loved to walk through the garden early in the morning in his long housecoat and admire the variety of shapes, the colors and the scent of the flowers. For him, their growth was an expression of vitality and beauty. Let's accompany Goethe through his garden by exploring his beloved carnations with pencil and brush. We will create clear outline drawings and tonal drawings and transform them into a botanical watercolor.
