MIKE STERN BAND - Featuring: Dennis Chambers, Leni Stern, Chris Minh Doky, and Bob Franceschini
In a career spanning four decades, and with a discography of more than a dozen diverse and innovative recordings, five-time Grammy nominee Mike Stern has established himself as one of the most important jazz and jazz-fusion guitarists, as well as one of the most respected electric guitar composers of his generation. Stern’s music has always drawn from a colorful and diverse musical environment—a place where numerous artistic styles converge to create a fresh sound that is rooted in jazz but does not adhere to rigid boundaries.
Since his earliest recordings, this former bandmate of Miles Davis, Jaco Pastorius, Billy Cobham, and other renowned innovators has blended elements of rock, blues, soul, and other genres with his solid jazz foundation. As an electrifying soloist whose breathtaking technique blends the energy of rock fusion with sophisticated jazz harmonies and his unmistakably bluesy guitar playing, Stern instantly elevates every stage and every session he performs on to a higher level. In doing so, he channels the influences of his personal guitar heroes, such as Jimi Hendrix, Wes Montgomery, Jim Hall, and Albert King.
In Mike Stern’s musical world, anyone who brings energy, versatility, and a passion for the art of music is welcome.
Accompanied by a powerful rhythm section consisting of Chris Minh Doky on bass and Dennis Chambers on drums, the concert becomes a far-reaching musical journey—from rock, fusion, and jazz compositions to gentle and melodic ballads. There’s room for the funk and jazz soundscapes of saxophonist Bob Franceschini as well as for the African soundscapes of Leni Stern on guitar, n’goni, and vocals.
