Matthias Deutschmann - Propaganda à la carte 1
“Propaganda à la carte”—The world is a madhouse, and fittingly, I had my premiere at the Tollhaus in Karlsruhe in the fall of 2025—a real one without 25 previews, but with stage fright instead. Well, the jitters have subsided. We’ve all become a bit more accustomed to the madness of Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin. But a queasy feeling is setting in. The Rheinische Lebensversicherung insurance company—“Et kütt, wie et kütt, und hätt noch immer jot jejange”—has canceled our contract.
Fear is spreading. In the old FRG, the motto was: “Bonn is not Weimar”—but does that also apply to ailing Berlin? Are we heading toward 1933?
The political climate is becoming more radical. The ZDF television cabaret wants to step out of the comfort zone of entertainment and proactively sound the alarm. Have we really reached the point where a celebrated, red-green master pianist must choose between a sarabande and a barricade?
Personally, I’ve decided to found an association: “Kommt Zeit, kommt Rat kommt Attentat e.V.” We’re a nonprofit, have our own ethics committee, an AI-powered alarm system with early-warning software for identifying leaders, and can issue donation receipts. And so I can cheerfully proclaim: Bye-bye, cabaret! Here we go! Take care of yourselves!
