Lirum Larum Book Festival

A Sunday full of stories, adventures, and reading fun—the Lesedachs invites book lovers of all ages to dive into the world of children’s literature once again this year! The grand opening of the 33rd Children’s Literature Festival at the Theater Freiburg will feature the following readings: 12:30–1:30 p.m., Main Stage, event with German Sign Language (DGS) Opening ceremony, followed by a graphic novel reading with Katja Brandis, author of the “Woodwalker” series “Nico & Daimon” (10+) Suddenly, a real dragon is sitting on Nico’s windowsill. Daimon may not be very big, but he’s got some awesome one-liners, causes plenty of chaos, and seems to be in danger. Will the cool Mira help him in his fight against the sinister dragon knights? A dragon-powered graphic novel featuring magical creatures, snappy neighborhood dogs, and fantastic illustrations—it’s fire-breathing fun! 2:30–3:30 p.m., Main Hall, event with sign language (DGS) Reading with Nils Mohl “The Island of the Schlasocks” (8+) In the middle of the night, Jasper flies a drone over the sea because he feels neglected at home. He ends up on an island inhabited by monstrous Schlasocks and bird-elephant-like Schnarnas. But what are these strange creatures that love doing absolutely nothing? Can Jasper solve the mystery of this enigmatic place? An island novel full of absurdly funny neologisms and imaginative ideas—perfect for daydreaming! 2:45–3:45 p.m., Winterer Foyer Picture book reading and live drawing with Reto Cameri “Mal Pixel mal” (4+) Pixel is a painting robot. His job is to paint pictures. But suddenly he’s drawn into the colorful world of shapes and colors—and it’s fun! But can robots even have fun? A fascinating, red-and-blue picture book where shape play meets experimental action painting with curving, endless trails of brushstrokes—perfect for riding the escalator! 4:30–5:30 p.m., Main Theater, Event with German Sign Language (DGS) Comic Book Reading with Tanja Esch “Boris, Babette, and a Bunch of Skeletons” (Ages 6+) She’s yellow, walks on two legs, and loves TV, flip books, and spooky stuff. And the craziest part: Babette can talk! To make Boris’s secret roommate feel at home, Boris has to turn his bedroom into a full-fledged haunted house. An amusing comic full of lovable characters and offbeat humor that subtly explores the feeling of being different—perfect for skeleton painting! But that’s not all! In addition to these readings, there’s all sorts of things to discover and try out in and around the Theater Freiburg: 12:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. At the Reading and Printing Workshop (ages 6+), you can design your own diary together with Illu e. V. and take it home with you. In the Freiburg municipal library bus on the theater forecourt, you can take part in a book-reading scavenger hunt and stock up on new reading material at the book tables set up by the Rombach and Fundevogel bookstores in the foyer. At KiKaffee (ages 4 and up)—an inclusive, diversity-sensitive, multilingual children’s library taking place in the art room—you’ll find children’s books from all over the world. On the theater forecourt, you can design your own protest signs, which you can then bring back to the children’s protest at 4:00 p.m.—and maybe you can also take a peek inside the “Lesedach” apartment and listen to the “Leselauschen” audio installation (ages 6+)… For more information about all the books, times, and readings, visit: www.freiburg.de/lesefest In cooperation with the Freiburg Cultural Office
