With the courage of a lion - Alfred Brendel ennobled the Leonkoro Quartet, founded in Berlin in 2019, as "one of the very best quartets: balanced, colorful and original". The ensemble lives up to its name, borrowed from the Esperanto word "lion heart": it plays with the "spirit of immediate freshness and fearlessness" (Süddeutsche Zeitung) and "has an enormous stage presence, glows for the music, takes full risks and amazes with its empathy for the respective sonority of the pieces" (Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung). After a touring season that has taken the Leonkoro Quartet from North America to Australia and Japan, the winners of the "BBC Young Generation Artist" are making their first guest appearance at the Albert Concerts - with a program that explores the most diverse shades of minor keys in three works.
Program:
Beethoven, String Quartet No. 4 in C minor op. 18/4
Shostakovich, String Quartet No. 8 in C minor op. 110
Schubert, String Quartet No. 13 in A minor D 804 "Rosamunde"
