The Layback Skateshop in Freiburg is much more than a traditional sports store. Since 2002, the shop has been producing handmade longboards and skateboards under the “Hackbrett” label, which are designed and built in its own workshop. The focus is on riding experience, quality, and precision craftsmanship. The product range includes longboards, surfskates, and skateboards, as well as carefully selected components for beginners, advanced riders, and ambitious riders alike. Anyone who wants to test different models before buying can do so right in the test center at the shop and try out the boards in the adjacent skate area. A particularly distinctive feature is the combination of expert advice, regional production, and a commitment to sustainability. Among other materials, regional woods are used to manufacture the boards. Additionally, the business is powered by solar energy and relies on resource-efficient solutions in both production and shipping.
In addition to the skate shop, a versatile creative hub has developed at the location. At the Layback Workspace, numerous creative professionals, craft workshops, and sustainable projects work side by side. These include, among others, ceramics studios, architecture and design firms, photographers, visual artists, upcycling initiatives, and a road bike repair shop.
